August 2009
August has been a time of considerable travel at MeteoLogic.
Craig travelled to Victoria and Tasmania to talk to various client groups to learn more about their needs and to describe ways in MeteoLogic can assist their businesses.
These client groups included fire agencies, plantation operators and major sporting event managers. We certainly appreciated each of these groups making the time to meet with Craig.
Matt was very pleased to be able to spend some time with key players in the Energy industry in South Australia. He certainly learned a lot from speaking with
each group, and has plenty of ideas of new and innovative services to help with their businesses. If these haven't been sent through already, then they won't be far away!

MeteoLogic were pleased to provide onsite forecasting services at an inter-agency fire exercise at the Beerburrum plantation of Forestry Plantations Queensland.
We provided our tailored fire weather forecast product to all the agencies in attendance, ranging from control room operators through to air teams and operational fire crews.
Of great use to all participants were our real time observations and forecast displays, showing:

We are very excited to be working with a new client in the energy industry. Our consultative services for this client give us the best of both worlds - they receive (what we think is) a top quality service relating to meteorological aspects to help their business move forward, and we get to delve into what we love - applied meteorology for businesses.
If you haven't done so already, please download and read through our Winter 2009 brochure. It includes some further explanation of the innovative services that MeteoLogic provides, as well as some further background about how weather impacts businesses and what can be done do minimise those impacts.

Matt Saunderson has just returned from a successful visit to the Kuwait Meteorological Department. He delivered 3 weeks of training to the Kuwaiti forecasters on the use of their new "Meteorological Data Processing" system, that was delivered by the Australian Bureau of Meteorology in conjunction with Telvent. This new system (consisting of operational forecasting systems, as well as numerical modelling, climate and observational systems) is undergoing a staged operationalisation process now. Most systems are now fully operational.
Matt provided on-the-job training to the forecasters, combining his meteorological and IT knowledge to help the forecasters use the system more efficiently and effectively.

Craig Mitchell, Manager of Forecasting Operations, has just completed a successful tour of coal operations around Newcastle and the Hunter Valley. He was able to meet with several operations and environmental staff from different companies. These meetings provided a valuable opportunity to learn more about the weather-related needs of these operators, and Craig was able to provide samples (and live examples) of forecast products that would be directly applicable to these aspects.
If Craig was not able to visit your operations on this tour, please contact us at enquiry
meteologic.com.au and we would be happy to arrange a meeting or phone hookup.

MeteoLogic was able to assist with a report into the devastating thunderstorm events in Southeast Queensland during November 2008. This report provided meteorological analysis of the full period that saw major damage to homes in and around Brisbane. The report was prepared for a major re-insurance firm in Australia, and was received very favourably and assisted them in the decicion making processes regarding this period of severe weather.
